CARBON CREDIT MOMENTUM BUILDS ACROSS THE U.S.
This summer marks a meaningful step forward for climate-smart agriculture. Three new LWR-supported carbon credit projects are set to launch in the coming weeks, building on the momentum of our first successful initiative in Washington State.
These upcoming projects span Wisconsin, Idaho, and Ohio — a clear signal that farms across the country are embracing manure treatment not just for its environmental benefits, but for its real economic return.
Stay tuned as these projects go live — this is only the beginning of what’s possible when nutrient recovery and carbon finance come together.

FUNDING NOW OPEN FOR CIRCULAR VALUE CREATION
A new funding opportunity is now available to support international R&D projects focused on circular value creation, including resource recovery and reuse. Funding is being offered by ministries and agencies across 17 countries, including Canada. Applications will be accepted between June 12 and September 30, 2025.

SHARING NUTRIENT RECOVERY SOLUTIONS IN FRANCE AT THE ST. MALO LIVESTOCK WORKSHOP
LWR's resident agronomist, Karleigh Lewis, recently presented at the St. Malo Livestock Workshop, hosted by the European Sustainable Phosphorus Platform.
She highlighted how LWR’s system transforms manure and digestate into value by combining coarse solids removal, flocculant-assisted separation, polishing filtration, and reverse osmosis. The result? Three valuable outputs: solid organic fertilizer (~3% P/DM, ~25% dry weight), a liquid nutrient concentrate (~0.2% N and K), and clean, discharge-quality water.
With a focus on reliability, efficiency, and long-term performance, LWR systems are now installed on nearly 40 dairy farms worldwide — including units that have been operating successfully for over a decade. Karleigh also shared how LWR customers are turning sustainable practices into economic opportunities through carbon credit projects in Washington, Wisconsin, and Idaho, with programs supporting methane emission reductions and Scope 3 carbon initiatives.
grō™ is a 100% biodegradable, PFAS-free, carbon-based flocculant that enhances manure separation in LWR’s First Wave and PLANT systems. It builds healthier soil structure, improves water retention, reduces erosion, and leaves no residual impact on treated water or soil. grō™ is an important tool in helping deliver clean water and valuable nutrients — safely and sustainably.

I’ve been following new legislation out of Iowa that highlights something we care a lot about at LWR: digestate treatment. A recent article in the RNG Coalition newsletter covered proposed regulations aimed at better managing digestate from livestock digesters. It’s a clear signal that states are starting to pay closer attention to what happens after gas production - and for good reason.
Digestate holds untapped potential and treating it properly is essential to unlocking the full value of RNG projects. By separating digestate into clean water, concentrated nutrients, and stackable solids, we help farms reduce hauling costs, apply nutrients with greater precision, and protect water resources. Our process is PFAS-free, soil-safe, and designed for long-term agronomic benefit.
Even more exciting: we’re working to expand our carbon credit protocol to include nutrient recovery and digestate treatment. That means farmers could soon earn credits not only for methane capture, but also for responsible post-digestion nutrient management - particularly reductions in nitrous oxide emissions from optimized nitrogen use.
I've been in Minnesota and South Dakota this week visiting customers, projects, and partners. With both states showing strong commitment to nutrient management and water quality, it's been a great opportunity to keep the conversation going. If you're in the area and would like to connect, I'd love to meet.
RISING FERTILIZER PRICES HIGHLIGHT THE VALUE OF NUTRIENT RECOVERY
Retail fertilizer prices continue to climb this spring, with UAN32 — a concentrated liquid nitrogen fertilizer widely used in crop and forage production — averaging $423 per ton in early April. That’s a 6% increase from March.
As fertilizer
costs remain volatile and unpredictable, farmers are looking more
closely at alternative nutrient sources to protect their bottom line.
With LWR’s manure and digestate processing systems, farms can transform traditional manure into concentrated, fast-acting nutrient products that enhance plant growth, build healthier soil, and feed critical soil microorganisms — without the chemical buildup associated with synthetic fertilizers. LWR’s nutrient outputs offer a sustainable, regenerative alternative that not only improves soil health but also protects water quality, helping farms manage input costs while strengthening long-term productivity.
LWR Co-Founder and CEO Karen Schuett has been invited to speak at Inventures Canada, a high-profile innovation event bringing together leaders in sustainability, technology, and entrepreneurship. She’ll join a panel titled “Reimagining our Roots: Alternative Fertilizers and Precision Agriculture”, where the discussion will focus on the role of soil health in addressing global food and climate challenges.
The session will explore alternative fertilizers, their limitations and potential, and how precision agriculture can support better environmental and economic outcomes for farms. With an emphasis on strengthening Canada’s agrifood systems, this panel will highlight the intersection of soil science, sustainable technology, and food security.
Karen will be joined by fellow panelist Joshua Day Chief, CEO of AdvancedAg, known for his work advancing regenerative agriculture and biological solutions, and moderated by Michael Williamson, CEO of Cascadia Seaweed and former Commander of Canada’s West Coast Naval Base. This promises to be a powerful conversation about the future of nutrients, investment, and innovation in agtech.

POLICY WATCH: CALIFORNIA LOOKS TO STABILIZE AG TRADE
As trade disruptions continue to impact U.S. agriculture, California is taking action.
The California State Board of Food and Agriculture will host a public meeting on May 6 to discuss current tariff challenges, market access issues, and strategies to protect the state’s $22.4B in ag exports. With top commodities like dairy, wine, and citrus affected, the session will bring together export and policy experts to explore short- and long-term trade solutions.

THOUGHTS WORTH SHARING
Progress in agriculture comes from those willing to explore new possibilities and lead with vision. Jim Carroll reminds us that farmers and innovators aren't just adapting to change — they're helping shape what comes next. At LWR, we’re proud to work with operations that turn sustainability into an opportunity, combining resource stewardship with a focus on long-term profitability.
Today we celebrate the women who nurture growth — in our families, our communities, and our future. Just like sustainable agriculture builds stronger soil for the next generation, the guidance, strength, and care of mothers create lasting foundations for all that’s yet to come.
Wishing a very Happy Mother’s Day to all the incredible mothers, grandmothers, and mother figures who inspire resilience, innovation, and possibility every day.
