A big congratulations to our chemist, Hailey Poole, who recently took the stage at Avatar Innovations’ Demo Day to pitch a bold 1.3 million dollar vision to energy-sector leaders.

Hailey and her team presented a technology designed to transform tailings ponds into stable, low-carbon systems where methane is not only monitored but eliminated. Their work earned them a well-deserved runner-up for the Industry Impact Award.

It happens because of the people behind them, pushing boundaries, exploring new ideas, and bringing fresh thinking into the world.

Carbon credits are no longer a side conversation. They are quickly becoming part of how food companies plan their future. Most of a large brand’s emissions come from its supply chain, not its factories, which means the farm is now one of the most important places in the entire climate story.

Here is where livestock operations have a real advantage. Methane is powerful, and manure storage is a major source. When a farm installs technology that cuts methane in a measurable way, those reductions can be verified and turned into carbon credits. Companies then buy those credits to help meet their own climate targets.

The First Wave is designed to do exactly that. By removing solids and lowering organic load before manure goes into storage, it reduces methane formation at the source. Those reductions can be monitored, validated, and ultimately turned into a new revenue stream through carbon markets. At the same time, farms gain better manure handling, lower hauling costs, and more control over nutrients.
