20 MILLION GALLONS AND COUNTING

https://stratus.campaign-image.ca/images/5959000001605003_zc_v1_1770167993649_dairy_.png

At Pete Postma and Sons Dairy in California, the First Wave system has processed over 20 million gallons of filtrate, producing a consistent, clean liquid stream that supports nutrient management, water reuse, and day-to-day performance on farm. The site is also generating verified carbon credits for methane avoidance through flocculant-assisted manure separation.

Contracts for the next round of Dairy Plus funded projects (supported by CDFA and USDA) are expected to be executed in early May, with construction to follow. These include both post-digester and raw manure sites, all deploying the same First Wave system.

We are excited to see these projects come online, along with the continued engagement from producers, vendors, and the broader industry as this work expands.

All California activity continues to be led by LWR’s distribution partner, Figure 8 Environmental, advancing projects from initial funding application through to installation. If you want to be part of the growing network of California dairies deploying First Wave systems, now is the time to connect with the Figure 8 team.

DO MORE WITH WHAT YOU’RE ALREADY MANAGING

https://stratus.campaign-image.ca/images/5959000001605003_zc_v1_1777514442899_do_more_lwr_earth_day.png

MORE control over nutrients.

MORE usable water.

MORE flexibility for your operation.

MORE revenue potential from your manure.

This was the idea behind our Earth Day campaign. It’s also how MORE farms are starting to approach manure management.

With the right system in place, manure becomes something you can manage with MORE intention. Nutrients go where they’re needed. Water can be recovered and reused. You have MORE control over how manure is handled day to day.

GETTING MORE FROM DIGESTATE

https://stratus.campaign-image.ca/images/5959000001605003_zc_v1_1770163818140___karleigh’s_korner__.png

For operations running digesters, digestate management can make or break project economics.

Digestate is rich in nutrients, contains a high level of dissolved solids, and still carries significant water volume. How it’s handled after digestion has a direct impact on nutrient management, hauling requirements, and overall system performance.

LWR has nearly a decade of operational experience treating digestate across multiple site types, including dairy manure digestate, mixed waste streams, and food waste digestate. While each stream varies, the challenges are consistent.

Without proper treatment, digestate can create ongoing pressure:

  • Overapplication of nutrients, increasing regulatory and environmental risk
  • High volumes of liquid that are costly to store and haul
  • Limited ability to reuse water on farm

Treating digestate changes how that stream performs.

LWR systems separate digestate into clean water, concentrated nutrient streams, and stackable solids. This allows nutrients to be managed more precisely, reduces the volume that needs to be handled, and creates more flexibility in how water is reused across the operation.

From a project perspective, this is where economics start to shift. Lower hauling costs, improved nutrient use, and the potential for additional revenue streams, including water quality credits, all contribute to stronger outcomes. There are also benefits on the carbon side, where improved handling can support overall project scoring and alignment with evolving requirements.

Digestate is not the end of the process. It’s another opportunity to improve performance across the system.

If digestate is part of your operation, it’s worth taking a closer look at how it’s being managed today. Reach out to learn more.

WATER QUALITY MEASUREMENT PROTOCOLS UNDERWAY

https://stratus.campaign-image.ca/images/5959000001605003_zc_v1_1777519715777_water_quality.png

Water quality is showing up more directly in how projects are funded, with increased focus on outcomes and the potential for water quality–based incentives and credits.

That shift depends on measurement, which is why we’re starting to formalize that work.

This month, we’re launching protocol development with three pilot farms, focused on measuring water quality outcomes tied directly to our systems. The objective is to create a consistent, repeatable way to quantify what leaves the treatment process, not just in a single test, but over time.

This is the kind of data that underpins emerging programs like water quality credits, where outcomes need to be defined, tracked, and verified.

For producers, this connects directly to how nutrients are managed, how water is reused, and how those outcomes may be recognized within evolving funding and credit frameworks.

FROM SAMPLE TO SYSTEM PERFORMANCE

https://stratus.campaign-image.ca/images/5959000001605003_zc_v1_1777520835627_lab.png

Every manure stream is different. That matters when you’re planning a digester or looking to improve how one is performing.

LWR’s in-house lab capabilities are designed to answer those questions early. By working with site-specific samples, we can evaluate gas yield potential, nutrient flows, and how a system will perform before decisions are made in the field.

For new projects, that means more confidence going into design and development. For existing digesters, it opens the door to optimization. Feedstock can be better understood. Separation can be used to improve consistency. And downstream handling of digestate becomes easier to manage.

The goal is simple. Turn variability into something predictable and usable. If you’re looking at a digester project or want to get more from an existing system, it’s worth starting with the data. Reach out to learn more about LWR’s lab and digester support services.

CARBON CREDIT WEBINAR COMING SOON

https://stratus.campaign-image.ca/images/5959000001605003_zc_v1_1777520441739_3_degrees.png

We’ve partnered with 3Degrees for an upcoming webinar focused on carbon credits and what they look like in practice for livestock operations.

We’ll get into how projects are structured, what’s required to participate, and how outcomes are measured and verified on farm. More details and registration coming soon, but it’s never too early to get on the list.

SEE YOU AT THE WORLD BIOGAS EXPO

https://stratus.campaign-image.ca/images/5959000001605003_zc_v1_1777519975366_world_biogas.png

LWR’s UK distribution partner, Genesis Distribution, will be exhibiting at the World Biogas Expo in Birmingham this summer.

With more projects looking at digester performance and digestate management, this is a good opportunity to connect with the Genesis team and see how LWR systems are being applied across both raw manure and post-digester projects.

If you’re planning to attend, be sure to stop by and meet the team.

But if you have a project in mind or want to learn more, you don’t have to wait. Connect with Genesis today!

#ICYMI LWR FEATURED IN EMISSIONS REDUCTION ALBERTA SPOTLIGHT

What if manure could be turned into clean water, dry fertilizer, and measurable emissions reductions, right on the farm? That’s exactly what LWR’s PLANT system is designed to do!

In a recent feature from Emissions Reduction Alberta, the PLANT system is highlighted as a practical, on-site solution that processes liquid manure, recovers reusable water, and reduces the environmental footprint of livestock operations.

The project is supported through Alberta’s TIER program, which focuses on advancing technologies that deliver real emissions reductions while keeping producers competitive.

It’s another example of how manure is becoming a measurable, manageable asset.

WORLD WITHOUT COWS AT AGGIE DAYS

Conversations about livestock are increasingly shaping how agriculture is viewed, funded, and regulated.

Earlier this month we attended the World Without Cows screening and panel discussion at Aggie Days, presented by the Calgary Stampede, to hear how that conversation is evolving.

What stood out is that the path forward is not about removing livestock. It’s about improving how these systems perform. And we couldn't agree more.

Research coming out of the UC Davis CLEAR Center, continues to reinforce that direction. Better nutrient management. Recovering water. Reducing emissions in ways that create real value for producers.

That’s where progress is happening. And it’s the work we’re focused on every day. Have you watched the film yet?
